Freelance GIS Specialist
I am an experienced geospatial scientist with a strong technical background specialising in the processing, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of various types of spatial data for a range of environmental applications.
Much of my commercial work to date has been based on remote sensing data including aerial imagery (current and historical), LiDAR derived DEMs, and Level 1 and 2 multispectral satellite imagery (Sentinel 2 and 3), as well as the design and analysis of scientifically robust field studies from plane, boat, hovercraft and by foot.
I recently completed a PhD in fluvial modelling which built on my aptitude for geospatial science, to additionally include fluvial modelling, hydrological methodologies/science, flood estimation techniques, modelling theory/principles and programming (C++), river characterisation and morphology.
I gained most of my experience working at the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies (at the University of Hull) delivering high profile research and consultancy projects to a range of organisations including government agencies, local authority, conservation charitable bodies and large-scale developers of onshore and offshore energy projects.
When the Institute was disbanded, I moved to the Surrey Hills, and have since started delivering the same services on a freelance basis through Thomson Geospatial Ltd. I still hold close links to previous colleagues, often collaborating to deliver a range of specialisms to a project.
